How GPA was formed

In early 2009, Dr. Russ Raker, the development executive at Nevada State College, and Las Vegas philanthropist Leigh Aurbach enlisted local estate planning attorney David Grant to join their mission – to better engage estate planning, financial, and tax planning professionals on the topic of planned giving. Recognizing that the Southern Nevada community was more than ready for its professionals to begin collaborating on their clients’ planned giving needs, these individuals, along with several well-regarded local charities and professional organizations, formed the Gift Planning Advisors.

These organizations include the Nevada State College Foundation, the St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation, the Henderson Community Foundation, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, the Boy Scouts of America, the Desert Research Institute Foundation, the Southern Nevada Estate Planning Council (SNEPC), and the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Nevada. Since that time, other important member organizations have joined the cause, including the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Nevada Community Foundation, Vegas PBS, the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Three Square, and NevadaGIVES. Each of these organizations has been a vital team member in taking the GPA’s message to Southern Nevada gift planning professionals.

While the GPA aspires to provide broad-based support for financial, legal, and nonprofit professionals in the gift planning arena, its specific mission is to support and encourage financial and legal professionals in advising their clients about charitable gift planning strategies as a part of the wealth and estate planning process. The founders of the GPA envision a Southern Nevada where every estate and financial professional advisor can and does broach the topic of planned giving with their clients. That is, simply put, what the GPA is about.

Since its first annual conference held in October 2009, the GPA has consistently delivered high quality educational events for its members, drawing on a talented and renowned pool of both local and nationally known speakers in the area of gift planning.
